Faith helps man forgive drunken driver who killed his daughter
A Harlingen family is grieving the loss of 19-year-old, Jacqueline Delgado who died from injuries after a car accident Friday.
"I was told she was brought back to life twice there," said Jacqueline's father Christopher Delgado. "She put up a fight."
Jacqueline was critically injured early Friday morning when 20-year-old Ruby Casares of Weslaco lost control of the F-150 she was driving and hit a traffic pole at the foot of the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway.
Port Isabel Police Chief Wally Gonzalez said Casares tested positive for alcohol.
"Her friends told us that they were going to Walmart to buy milk and pampers for the little girl that was in the accident," said Delgado
All five passengers, including the 2-year-old girl, were rushed to local hospitals.
Sadly, Jacqueline died five days later when she was taken off life support in a hospital room surrounded by friends and family.
"I thought she only had a handful of friends and she had hundreds of friends," said Delgado. "People that I didn't even know. She just touched so many lives."
The student at STC continues to bring joy to people's lives as an organ donor.
Jacqueline's heart will be going to a 15-year-old and her kidney's are a match for one of her cousin's.
And although Delgado's daughter's life was cut short, this grieving father forgives the drunk driver who killed his daughter.
"My Lord tells me I have to be a forgiving person and right now I can tell you I'm at peace," said Delgado.
Casares faces multiple counts of vehicular assault and one count of injury to a child.
Charges may be upgraded to homicide by vehicle while driving drunk.
At the time of the accident Delgado's family didn't have medical insurance.
They have set up an account for donations at Frost National Bank in Harlingen under the name of Jacqueline Renee Delgado Memorial.
